Use case
Import AliExpress reviews to your BigCommerce store
BigCommerce has a reviews API, and AliExpress has the reviews. Connect the two with a short script and your products get native reviews.
Two APIs, one script
BigCommerce lets you create product reviews through the Catalog API, so there is nothing to scrape on your side and nothing to install in the store. You only need the reviews in a clean format, which is what this API returns.
The reviews created this way are regular BigCommerce reviews: your theme and the star rating of your product pages use them like any other.
How it works
- Find the AliExpress product ID in the URL: the number in
aliexpress.com/item/1005006123456789.html. - Choose the reviews with
filter: a star rating, reviews with photos or reviews from a country. - Translate them with
langto match your storefront’s language. - Create them with
POST /v3/catalog/products/{id}/reviewsusing a BigCommerce API token that has the products scope.
Example: from AliExpress to BigCommerce reviews
A Node.js script that reads the 5-star reviews of an AliExpress product and creates them as reviews of a BigCommerce product. Set your store hash, the API token and the BigCommerce product id.
// Create BigCommerce product reviews from the 5-star reviews of an AliExpress product.
const API = 'https://api.aliexpress-reviews.com';
const STORE_HASH = process.env.BC_STORE_HASH;
const BC_PRODUCT_ID = 123; // your BigCommerce product
const res = await fetch(`${API}/v1/reviews/1005006123456789?filter=5&pageSize=20`, {
headers: { 'x-api-key': process.env.REVIEWS_API_KEY },
});
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`HTTP ${res.status}`);
const { data } = await res.json();
for (const r of data) {
const created = await fetch(
`https://api.bigcommerce.com/stores/${STORE_HASH}/v3/catalog/products/${BC_PRODUCT_ID}/reviews`,
{
method: 'POST',
headers: {
'X-Auth-Token': process.env.BC_ACCESS_TOKEN,
'Content-Type': 'application/json',
Accept: 'application/json',
},
body: JSON.stringify({
title: r.content.slice(0, 60),
text: r.content,
status: 'pending', // review them in the control panel, then approve
rating: r.rating,
name: r.author,
date_reviewed: new Date(r.date).toISOString(),
}),
},
);
if (!created.ok) console.error(r.id, created.status, await created.text());
}Details worth getting right
- Run it server-side. Both the reviews API key and the BigCommerce token are secrets: use a script, a serverless function or cron.
- Respect BigCommerce’s rate limits and create reviews sequentially or in small batches.
- Avoid duplicates by storing the AliExpress review ids you already created.
- Moderation: create them with the status you prefer (
pendingto review them first,approvedto publish).
Use them honestly
Show them as reviews of the product from AliExpress buyers, not from your customers. Consumer law in many countries requires you to say where your reviews come from, and it is also what builds trust.
Questions
Which BigCommerce permission do I need?
A store-level API account whose token can modify products in the Catalog scope. Keep the token on the server, like the reviews API key.
Can I import the review photos?
On the Max plan, filter=image returns only reviews with photos and includes their image URLs. The BigCommerce review endpoint has no image field, so add them to the text or host them yourself.
How many reviews can I get?
Up to 20 per request on Free and up to 100 on Pro and Max, with pagination to go through all of them. The quota is 100, 1,000 or 10,000 requests a day depending on the plan.
Is the API affiliated with AliExpress?
No. It returns the public reviews AliExpress shows on its product pages, but it is an independent service.
Try it with your own products
100 requests a day for free, no card required. Paste a product ID into the tester in your dashboard and see the JSON.
